Pacific Homes and Pacific Truss together with PinkWood present British Columbia’s first “ALL PINK” house, building a safer, healthier home using PinkWood’s innovative mold, moisture and fire resistant coating.
All the framing materials used for this home have been coated with PinkShield, a coating proven to resist mold, moisture and fire. Located in Sooke, BC this “Pink House” has generated a lot of interest and raised a few questions.
It’s Pink in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation with a portion of all sales being donated to Breast Cancer Research.
Why do we care?
Safety: Reducing the loss of life in house fires.
The PinkShield coating slows down the burn time of the wood considerably, approximately double the time of uncoated wood, allowing families more time to evacuate the home in the event of a fire. In addition, by adding valuable burn time the structural integrity of the home is maintained longer, making it less dangerous for firemen to enter during rescue and evacuation.
Health: Preventing Mold Growth
Prevention of mold and moisture in the home is essential in maintaining a healthy living environment and ensuring the long term structural stability of the home.
PinkWood manufactures their PinkShield coating in its factory in Calgary, AB. They also factory coat lumber, sheathing and structural I-joists. PinkWood donates a portion of their sales proceeds to The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, with over $25,000 donated in 2011 alone!
This pink house was pre-fabricated in Pacific Homes’ environmentally friendly factory in Cobble Hill, BC to further save the materials from the elements and speed up construction on site. In addition, the home will include Pacific Homes’ exclusive energy-saving Pacific SmartWallTM.
We’re very excited to be involved in this initiative and to be able to offer something extraordinary that helps to improve the health and sustainability of our homes!
