PinkWood is the logical choice when it comes to building a safe home. PinkWood joists are fire retardant, non-toxic and mould resistant. Chemicals such as Aluminum Trihydrate (ATH) and Ammonium Polyphosphate (APP) are used on PinkWood to prevent fires. Aluminum Trihydrate is a smoke suppressant which is non-toxic and non-corrosive. The other flame retardant chemical used, Ammonium Polyphosphate is also non-toxic and is environmentally friendly.

The pink coating used is PinkShield which prevents mould, mildew and repels moisture. A chemical called Chlorothalonil has been used in the paint industry in North America since 1968 as a fungicide to control mold and mildew. This chemical can be harmful when concentrated but it is significantly reduced in PinkWood products. The fungicide that is used (which has been registered by Health Canada) contains a very small percentage of Chlorothalonil which makes up less than 2% of the overall formula. This small concentration is not considered toxic. PinkShield also includes Acrylic Polymer, the binder in the formula that aids in moisture resistance. It has low-toxic levels and is not classified as a hazardous substance.  

Not only is the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation a supporter of this product but Ross Neuman, a retired Registered Professional Biologist has decided to jump on board with PinkWood. He will be building a new home for himself in Sannich on Vancouver Island using PinkWood joists. It is a smart choice for home-builders who want to protect their safety with PinkWood.
